After a few dozen self-aggrandizing film projects, a sordid
association with various college institutions, and a deliberately
unenthusiastic awards show gig, James Franco
has become something of a joke. But we have to remember the actor we
once fell in love with: the Daniel Desario, the Saul Silver, the dude in
Milk. And just because his extracurricular projects might be a
bit odd — might, perhaps, come off as a bit pretentious and
unsubstantially elitist. But all in all, some of Franco's creations are
pretty good. And the passion that infuses them? Even better.
Check out the above video of Franco taking to the walls of Los
Angeles with a team of painters, setting out to depict the cast of his
upcoming comedy This Is the End, and give some due credit to the kook: he might be in it for the glory (at least to some extent), but at least in it at all.
This Is the End hits theaters on June 14.
