Paul Giamatti has joined the cast of Downton Abbey for
season 4 as the playboy brother of Elizabeth McGovern's Lady Grantham.
The fourth season will air on PBS beginning January 5, 2014.
The period drama showcases a very English way of life, and
Giamatti, like Shirley MacLaine before him in Season 3, will play an
ugly American relative of those well put-together English folks.
Giamatti's character is described by the show's producers as being
"rather free-spirited" and "sure to upset the Granthams' apple cart."

Giamatti won an Emmy in 2008 for his role as the president in HBO's John Adams. He's also been nominated for a number of other awards, including an Oscar for his role in Cinderella Man.
