Following the dismissal of Tenth Doctor David Tennant, British actor
Matt Smith signed on as the lead in the perpetually-running series Doctor Who in
2010. Three short years (if we are indeed to pay reverence to linear
time) later, Smith is announced to be leaving the program. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Smith will bid farewell to the far-reaching universe of Doctor Who after this coming fall, leaving us to wonder who will take on the role next.Smith is set to appear in the Nov. 23 special and the additional annual Christmas special, but will be no longer on board for any TARDIS-accessible adventures thereafter. Fans will have to wait until a new Doctor is announced, although speculation (and a few campaigns, no doubt) are sure to have begun already.
