The "Catching Fire" star will play an auto mechanic who dreams of escaping his hometown, the coldest town in America.

Liam Hemsworth is the latest big name to join the star-heavy cast of Cut Bank, a crime thriller directed by Matt Shakman.

The Hunger Games star joins a cast featuring John Malkovich, Ben Kingsley, Michael Sheen and Teresa Palmer. Production began on June 12 in Alberta, Canada.

Hemsworth will play 25-year-old Dwayne McLaren, a former-athlete-turned-auto-mechanic who is desperate to flee his hometown of Cut Bank, MT. But his dreams of escaping the coldest place in America set in motion a series of events that will change him and his town forever.
The story, written by Roberto Patino, was on the 2009 Black List of hot unproduced properties.

Shakman, who has directed episodes of Mad Men and Six Feet Under, makes his feature debut with the project, which is being produced by Edward Zwick (Shakespeare in Love, Traffic), Mickey Barold and Dan Cohen. Kilburn Media is financing the picture with Edmonton Economic Development Corporation, with Kilburn’s Mark Manuel and Ted O’Neal overseeing production for the financiers.
WME and Untitled Entertainment are co-representing domestic rights. Canada’s eOne is handling distribution in Canada and international sales.
Hemsworth, who will reprise his role as Gale in the Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire and stars in the upcoming thriller Paranoia, is repped by WME, ROAR and Mark Morrissey and Associates.
