Box Office: 'Man of Steel' Soars in Midnight Showings

Man of Steel

Expectations for the opening weekend of Man of Steel are ranging from $75 million to well over $100 million, but with an impressive start with Thursday preview and midnight screenings of $21 million, Superman is already flying high.
For comparison, the June 2006 reboot Superman Returns had Wednesday midnight showings of $4.9 million and went on to a No. 1 debut of in its first weekend, raking in $52.5 million. In 2012, The Amazing Spider-Man reboot earned $7.5 million in Wednesday midnight screenings and went on to earn $62 million in its opening weekend. With Wednesday debuts, those two films burned off some of their gross before the weekend. Man of Steel has the advantage for a much bigger weekend by virtue of its Friday release date.

We are looking forward to reporting some big numbers for Man of Steel this weekend!
