BAFTA Teams Up With Burberry for 'Breakthrough Brits'

The British Academy and fashion house will begin the search for talent on both sides of the camera in film, TV and games for potential career-boosting recognition.

LONDON -- The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) is partnering with fashion label Burberry to launch a new talent promotion.

The aim is to celebrate and support the U.K.’s future stars of film, television and games under the banner "Breakthrough Brits."
BAFTA is calling for nominations to be submitted before names are chosen by separate subcommittees of film, television and games professionals.
Up to 20 newcomers will be selected to take part in a day of in-depth career guidance and mentoring from leading industry figures at BAFTA’s central London headquarters in October. The event will conclude with an evening reception at Burberry’s flagship store in the British capital.
"It’s a fantastic opportunity for newcomers to showcase their work on a public stage and to make the industry connections that are so important to developing their careers, both nationally and internationally," said BAFTA CEO Amanda Berry. "We hope their achievement will inspire others taking their first steps into the film, television and games industries."
Proposed nominees must be U.K. nationals at the start of their career who are making a name for themselves as a performer or in a craft specialty within film, television or games, and who have a credit on at least one production with a theatrical release, broadcast or publication in the U.K. between October 2012 and October 2013.
