LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Hailee
Steinfeld plays Juliet in a new screen adaptation of “Romeo &
Juliet” (the film was shot last fall), and the young star is thrilled
the movie has been given a release date.
“I’m so excited,” Hailee, 16, told of the project at the 2013 Crystal + Lucy Awards. “I can’t wait for everyone to see the film.
“It’s
really something I feel like I was a part of the whole process of and
sort of watched the film come together and watched it be completed,” she
added. “So I’m excited to see the full project.”
Douglas Booth, 20, plays Romeo to Hailee’s Juliet and the actress had nothing but praise for her co-star.
“He’s amazing – he was so great,” she said.
As
for whether the movie’s dialogue will stay true to the famed words of
William Shakespeare’s tragedy, Hailee said the film is “definitely more
traditional.”
“The text is a bit modernized for this generation – but other than that, it’s very traditional,” she said.
“Romeo
& Juliet” – which also stars Paul Giamatti, Damian Lewis and
Stellan Skarsgard — opens in select theaters on September 6.
