20 Hollywood Couples You Forgot About

Amanda Bynes might currently spend her days lusting after Drake on Twitter, but her taste was much different just five years ago. Though it's now just a footnote in her cheek-studded existence, the actress raised eyebrows in 2008 for dating Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, who is 12 years her senior.

Amanda Bynes and Seth MacFarlane

Before MacFarlane's big-screen superstardom — and before Bynes' big meltdown — the duo briefly dated in 2008 despite their 12-year age difference. But MacFarlane and Bynes are hardly the only surprising former couple in Hollywood. Read on to see 19 other Tinsel Town couples that you forgot dated!

Michael Jackson and Tatum O'Neal

The pop star's first relationship was with Paper Moon Oscar winner, but O'Neal was not his lover. According to O'Neal's biography, A Paper Life, her relationship with the then 17-year-old cooled as soon as they tried to turn up the heat. Wrote O'Neal, "I was just 12 and not at all ready for a real-life encounter ... Michael, who was sweating profusely, seemed as intimidated as I was. He jumped up nervously and said, 'Uh... gotta go.'"

Scarlett Johansson and Jack Antonoff

Before the fun. musician hooked up with his current girl, Girls star Lena Dunham, he dated bombshell-to-be Johansson when they attended the Professional Children's School in their teens in 2001. Seems Dunham and Johansson share a taste — the Avengers actress also courted Dunham's brief on-screen paramour, Patrick Wilson, in 2004.

Benicio Del Toro and Scarlett Johansson

Far more surprising was Johansson's romance with Del Toro... and the lurid details that arose from their 2004 romance. Rumors circulated that the 20-year-old Johansson enjoyed a romp in the elevator of the Chateau Marmont with the 37-year-old del Toro following the Oscars. The actress, however, has since denied the rumors, insisting she only goes down in elevators to get to the bottom floor.

Natalie Portman and Lukas Haas

The duo starred together in Mars Attacks! and Everyone Says I Love You, but, despite rumors of a romance, Portman would not tell everyone she loved the actor. Instead, during their '90s romance, Portman called Haas a "friend" to press. Ouch.

Ryan Reynolds and Kristen Johnston

Fitting that an out-of-this-world relationship would involve a 3rd Rock From the Sun alum. Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place star Reynolds and Johnston dated briefly in 1999, when Johnston was a 32-year-old cougar dating a 23-year-old Hollywood newbie. One engagement to Alanis Morissette and two marriages to Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively later, we learned Reynolds has very eclectic taste.

Brad Pitt and Christina Applegate

Turns out Pitt's short time with Applegate was the pits. In 1989, after the duo realized they were sweet on one another, Pitt and Applegate attended the 1989 MTV Movie Awards... where Applegate took a bite out of the young actor's heart by ditching him for another man at the event. We're guessing the happily married actress doesn't regret her decision... and neither does Pitt.

Jessica Biel and Chris Evans

The actors' on-screen love life was much more successful than their real-life courtship. After playing paramours in 2004's Cellular and 2005's London, the duo called it quits in 2006. And it turns out the break-up was the best thing to happen to them — both Evans and Biel catapulted to fame following the relationship as Captain America and Mrs. Timberlake.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert Downey Jr.

Though Parker and Downey fell for one another after meeting on the set of 1984's Firstborn, their relationship unraveled as soon as Downey began to unravel. Though Parker tried to clean up the actor's drug addiction, the duo parted ways after seven years together. "I was so selfish," Downey told Parade in 2008. "I liked to drink, and I had a drug problem, and that didn't jibe with Sarah Jessica, because it is the furthest thing from what she is."

Pamela Anderson and Brett Michaels

Poor Bret. Not only was the Poison rocker overshadowed by '90s girlfriend Anderson, but he would prove to be overshadowed by her next boyfriend-turned-husband-turned-ex, Tommy Lee, too. Before Anderson dated and filmed a sex tape with the INXS drummer, she did the same with Michaels, who blocked the release of the video in 1998. But if you still need proof of their relationship, footage from the film has still made its way onto the Internet.

Nick Lachey and Kim Kardashian

Turns out Ryan Seacrest didn't create the monster that is Kim Kardashian — Nick Lachey did. After the 98 Degrees singer's very public divorce from Jessica Simpson, he went on one date with a then-unknown Kardashian... and a slew of cameras. "No one followed us there," he told Details in 2013. "Somehow, mysteriously, when we left, there were 30 photographers waiting outside. There are certain ways to play [the fame] game, and some people play it well."

Edward Furlong and Paris Hilton

Imagining the spoiled socialite's 1999 romance with the former Terminator 2 child star? We know now why you cry.

Kristin Davis and Damian Lewis

Don't remember the Sex and the City star dating Homeland's Lewis? That's because it might not have happened — though some reports claim the duo were briefly an item in 2004, others claim they never dated in the first place. Seems there are relationships stranger than Carrie and Brody's.

Sofia Coppola and Keanu Reeves

The Oscar-nominated Coppola dated Reeves after her father directed the actor in 1992's Dracula? As Reeves would say, whoa.

January Jones and Josh Groban

Before Jones became the much-hated Betty Draper on Mad Men, she dated the much-loved musician Groban. More surprising than their romance, however, is the fact that Groban has yet to find a serious girlfriend since. "We were madly in love," the singer told Details in 2013. "It was definitely my longest relationship." Hmm... we have a feeling Megan Draper might be single soon...

Michelle Rodriguez and Colin Farrell

Rodriguez and Farrell were rumored to have dated after meeting on the set of S.W.A.T. in 2003. In case you were wondering if there was anything more surprising than the fact that anyone saw S.W.A.T..

David Spade and Julie Bowen

Bowen might have dated SNL star Adam Sandler on screen in 1996's Happy Gilmore, but, in 2002, the future Modern Family cast member romanced another Studio 8H alum, David Spade, off-screen. Still, curiously, the actress has yet to grace the SNL stage as host. Time to start the petition?

Rachael Leigh Cook and Shane West

A match made in '90s heaven, A Walk to Remember star West dated She's All That magic pixie dream girl, Cook. Despite two years together, West's relationship with the young starlet went south, and they split in 1999. Oh well — we all knew she belonged with Zack Siler anyway.

Kieran Culkin and Anna Paquin

If we knew back in 1990 that the Culkin brothers would be able to score Mila Kunis and Oscar winner Paquin, we'd lather our hands in aftershave and slap our cheeks in shock. But it's true — in 2007, Culkin, star of Father of the Bride and Nowhere to Run dated the future True Blood star. Bloody unfair.

Ryan Gosling and Sandra Bullock

The Oscar-winning actress proved naysayers who questioned her attachment to projects like All About Steve and The Lake House wrong by dating Murder By Numbers co-star-turned-Internet obsession Gosling. And you questioned her taste?

But Bynes and MacFarlane — whose quiet courtship came to a quiet end shortly after they started dating — are hardly the only surprising celebrities who hooked up. Click above to see our gallery of 20 stars you forgot dated! (Even if you'd like some to remain forgotten — ahem, Michael Jackson and Tatum O'Neal.)
