The "Breaking Bad" and "30 Rock" alum will helm the premiere and board the limited series as an executive producer.
The 10-episode limited series is inspired by the Coen brothers feature of the same name will feature a new "true crime" story with the series following a new case, complete with new characters and the "Minnesota nice" made famous by the Academy Award-nominated feature.
Noah Hawley (My Generation) will pen the adaptation and executive produce alongside Joel and Ethan Coen and Warren Littlefield.
Bernstein is an Emmy winner for his work on 30 Rock, sharing the 2007 prize for best comedy series. His credits also include directing episodes of Rescue Me, House of Lies, Californication, United States of Tara, Scrubs, Bored to Death and Breaking Bad.
Joel Coen earned an Academy Award nomination for his directing work on the 1996 feature that ultimately took home Oscars for the Coen brothers' screenplay and lead actress Frances McDormand.
Fargo hails from FX Productions and MGM Television, the latter of which will serve as the lead studio and will handle worldwide distribution of the series outside of the U.S. and Canada.
Bernstein is repped by ICM Partners. Fargo will begin production in the fall for a spring 2014 premiere.
