As the United States' controversial program continues to garner headlines, Lakeshore strikes first on project from writer Spenser Cohen.

As the United States' controversial drone program continues to garner headlines in recent weeks, Lakeshore Entertainment has nabbed an untitled drone program pitch from writer Spenser Cohen.
Tripp Vinson, Brooklyn Weaver, Lisa Zambri are producing in some capacity. Anna Halberg, Cohen's producing partner, will co-produce.
The logline for the action-thriller with military elements is being kept under wraps but will mirror some of the Obama administration's use of drone strikes that has sparked controversy of late, putting the president on the defensive about the high-tech program that allows servicemen stationed in the United States to take out suspected terrorists abroad.

Other ripped-from-the-headlines projects are causing a stir this week as revelations about the National Security Agency's program of widespread surveillance of U.S. citizens came to light. At least one WME-repped project that centers on controversial leaker Edward Snowden is making the rounds, with a sale imminent.
The sale is also coming just as a book deal is being signed between Penguin and Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Barton Gellman for a time about the surveillance state.
Spenser, a recent USC grad, last year sold High Value Target to Millennium Films. That project also centered around true events, in that case focusing on Somali pirates and a special ops team. Cohen, repped by WME and Energy Entertainment, is attached to direct HVT.
Lakeshore, the producers and WME did not comment on the deal.
