Spinning a Web of Rumors: Is Sarah Gadon the New Mary Jane in 'Amazing Spider-Man'?

Sarah Gadon

Two actresses. One friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Which Mary Jane will get the final rose?
Days after it was announced that Shailene Woodley's role as the webslinger's love interest was pushed from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to the third installment, Sarah Gadon has been cast in the series' upcoming films, The Amazing Spider man 3 and The Amazing Spider Man 4. Thursday night, ET Canada confirmed the actress' newest project by tweeting that Gadon "is joining The Amazing Spider-Man franchise" in an unspecified role.
While it has not been confirmed who Gadon will play, speculation is leading many to believe that the star of next year's Dracula will replace Woodley as Peter Parker's future wife, Mary Jane Watson. Woodley, the young star of this summer's The Spectacular Now, has recently been cast in Divergent, a dystopian film based on the young-adult novel of the same name. If the film is green-lit for a sequel, Woodley's role could interfere with her presence in the already-solidified release dates for the future of The Amazing Spider-man series.
Has MJ been recast for the upcoming films? No one really knows. In the meantime, check out the Amazing Spider-Man 2 when it swings into theatres (sans Mary Jane) on May 2, 2014.
