'Mud' Breakout Actor in Talks to Star in Indie 'Grass Stains' (Exclusive)

Tye Sheridan will play a teen discovering his first love in the coming-of-age story by Kyle Wilamowski.

Tye Sheridan, the young actor garnering buzz for his work opposite Matthew McConaughey in the indie hit Mud, is in negotiations to star in Grass Stains, a coming-of-age tale written and directed by Kyle Wilamowski.

Kaitlyn Dever, who makes up part of the cast of ABC's comedy Last Man Standing and appeared in J. Edgar, is also in negotiations to join the project.
Matt Perniciaro, Kevin Mann, and Rachel Miller of Haven Entertainment, along with Deckplate Films' Steve Olivera and Michael Sherman, are producing the indie feature, which is scheduled to shoot in North Carolina later this month. Haven is co-financing.
Sheridan will play a teen discovering his first love (Dever). When a prank goes awry and causes the death of his girlfriend’s older brother, the boy must balance his secret guilt with his feelings for the girl.

Sheridan is emerging as one of the most in-demand male teen actors in Hollywood. He made his debut opposite Brad Pitt in Terrence Malick's Tree of Life, which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
The young actor returned to Cannes for the premiere of Mud, written and directed by Jeff Nichols, which was picked up by Roadside Attractions and became a breakout indie hit when it was released April 26.
The actor next stars opposite Nicolas Cage in Joe, a drama directed by David Gordon Green which does not yet have a release date.
