Meryl Streep's 'Iron Lady' Set Up for Sale

U.K. studio facilities Wimbledon Film and TV Studios puts House of Commons film set up for auction after eBay bid fails to stump up cash.

LONDON – U.K. studio facilities Wimbledon Film and TV Studios, under fresh management, have gone back to market with its plans to sell off its House of Commons film set.

The plan to put the set under the auction hammer comes after the initial sale conducted on global internet site eBay fell through after the winning bidder failed to write a check for the $192,000 (£123,400) price tag.
The money raised by the sale of the actual-size House of Commons set from The Iron Lady starring Meryl Streep, along with a replica court room and prison set both featured on the long-running TV show The Bill, is to be pumped into a planned expansion of the site.
The eBay auction finished on March 22 with the closing bid for all three reaching £123,400.
Now the sets will be part of a catalogue that Cuttlestones Auctioneers and Valuers will offer up starting June 21.
Wimbledon Studios managing director Piers Read said: “It was unfortunate that our original buyer didn’t come through in the end, but I’m confident that Cuttlestones’ will help us find the purchaser we need to allow us to continue our expansion. The buyer needs a lot of space, as the House of Commons set alone covers 5,000 square feet, but if you are a true movie buff and want to say you share the same seat as Meryl Streep on a daily basis, here’s your chance."
