Jeremy Garelick will direct the currently untitled film.
Kevin Hart will play a best-man-for-hire who helps out a socially awkward Josh Gad in a currently untitled comedy for Screen Gems and Miramax.
The project was written by Jeremy Garelick (The Break-Up, Police Academy) and Jay Lavender (The Break-Up), with the former also set to direct.
The film follows a man named Jimmy (Hart) who provides best man services for men who don't have best friends. Groom Doug (Gad) is a socially awkward guy who finds himself without a best man. He makes up not only a best man, but nine groomsmen, and eventually seeks out Jimmy's help to create his fictional friends.
Miramax’s Adam Fields and Will Packer are producing the film. Clint Culpepper, president of Screen Gems, will oversee the project for the company.
Hart's previous film work includes ensemble film Think Like a Man. He next will be seen in the concert film Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain and is repped by UTA and 3 Arts.
Gad, who starred as Elder Arnold Cunningham in the Broadway musical The Book of Mormon, can be seen in current film The Internship, will play Steve Wozniak in Jobs and has a role in Zach Braff's upcoming film, Wish I Was Here. He's repped by ICM Partners and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
Garelick and Lavender previously wrote the script for the comedy The Break-Up, which starred Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn. Garelick is repped by UTA and Lavender is repped by Verve Talent and Literary Agency.
