The legal advocate, portrayed by Julia Roberts in a 2000 movie, was taken into custody Friday night at Lake Mead after failing a sobriety test.

Erin Brockovich-Ellis, a legal advocate who became a household name thanks to Julia Roberts' award-winning portrayal of her in a 2000 movie, was arrested for boating while intoxicated on Lake Mead, near Las Vegas.

Brockovich-Ellis, 52, was taken into custody around 10:15 p.m. Friday and booked into Clark County jail, a spokesman for the Nevada Department of Wildlife told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The spokesman said a game warden noticed that Brockovich-Ellis (who changed her last name after marrying in 1999), was "struggling" to dock her boat. He went to help her and noticed that she was slurring her speech and exhibited other signs of intoxication.
“She was obviously struggling to put the boat in the slip, and if you’ve had any experience, it’s a simple enough operation,” the spokesman said.
A field sobriety test indicated that she was "significantly" above the legal limit of a 0.08. Brockovich-Ellis, who resides in Agoura Hills, Calif., was released from jail on $1,000 bail.
Brockovich-Ellis came to fame after landing a job as a legal assistant and helping bring down a California power company accused of polluting a city's water supply. Robert earned an Oscar for her portrayal of the mother of three in 2000's Erin Brockovich.
