'C.O.G.' Named Best New American Cinema at Seattle Film Festival

Penny Lane's "Our Nixon" takes grand jury prize for best documentary.

Kyle Patrick Alvarez’s C.O.G. has received the Grand Jury Prize for best new American cinema at the 39th Seattle International Film Festival, which concludes Sunday. An adaptation of an essay by David Sedaris, the film concerns a young man working on an apple farm in Oregon.
Grand Jury Prizes also were awarded to Emir Baigazin’s Harmony Lessons, about a bullied Muslin boy in rural Kazakhstan, which received the prize for best new director, and Penny Lane’s Our Nixon, named best documentary for its look inside the Nixon administration.
The Golden Space Needle Audience Award for best film was given to Henk PretoriousFanie Fourie’s Lobola, a film from South Africa.
