A slew of stars and industry leaders turned out for the 12th annual Chrysalis Butterfly Ball, which raised a total of $1.4 million to help Los Angeles' homeless become educated and employed.

Among those in attendance at Saturday's event, held at a private Mandeville Canyon estate, were Colin Farrell, Chris Pine, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, J.J. Abrams, Ben McKenzie, Kim Raver, Russell Simmons, David O. Russell, Ali Larter, Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart-Dane, who co-founded the Butterfly Ball in 2002. The evening was hosted by New Girl’s Max Greenfield, filling the shoes of last year’s host, Seth MacFarlane. The event also featured musical performances by Aloe Blacc and The Bird and the Bee.

The Butterfly Ball is marks Chrysalis’ annual effort to honor leaders in entertainment who act as allies for the city’s homeless population. This year’s recipients were writers and producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who most recently collaborated on Star Trek Into Darkness; CAA's Josh Lieberman; and Chernin Entertainment president of television Katherine Pope.
The evening began with a red carpet and outdoor cocktail reception, followed by a sit-down dinner and awards ceremony for the 2013 Hollywood honorees.
Also on this year’s honoree list was Chrysalis’ 2013 featured client, Johnny Gutierrez, who received the annual John Dillon Award, named after the nonprofit’s founder. Gutierrez was recognized for his success within the organization and in maintaining fulltime employment. Gutierrez credits Chrysalis for turning his life around.
“If I don’t achieve anything higher, I’ve achieved as high as I could have ever expected to,” Gutierrez told“I had nothing, was nowhere and was going nowhere. Without Chrysalis’ guidance to help me come out of what I was in, I don’t know that I would be here right now.”
The ball was sponsored by Audi, Carnevale at The Venetian Las Vegas, Grey Goose Vodka and philanthropic partner Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors Foundation.
Previous honorees include MacFarlane, Simmons,Salma Hayek, Olivia Wilde, LL Cool J, Ryan Murphy, Mila Kunis and Vince Vaughn.
