The first poster for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is
here, and it brings with it some questions. It's safe to assume that
Smaug, the dragon who destroyed the home of Thorin's people and keeps
watch over their vast treasure, will be desolated. We can also assume
that we will see Bilbo and the dwarves trail through the black forest of
Mirkwood, because it plays such a large part in the story. While this
poster doesn't give us many new clues about the second Hobbit film, we can at least see that Bilbo does indeed find the secret door at the base of the Lonely Mountain.
What we remain most curious about is Evangeline Lilly's
character, though. It was revealed recently that Lilly would play
Tauriel, an elf warrior who doesn't exist in J.R.R. Tolkien's books, but
we don't know much else about her character. Will she help Bilbo and
the dwarves, or will she cause trouble for them?
We question what Peter Jackson might have in store for us in the second installment of The Hobbit films, but we'll bank on the title coming true. Prepare to see Smaug desolated on December 13.
