Netflix Goes to Prison in July with 'Orange is the New Black'

Orange you glad you have Netflix? Otherwise how would you be able to watch series that revolve around criminal masterminds like Frank Underwood on House of Cards and George Bluth Sr. on the upcoming revival of Arrested Development? Thanks to the power of television (streaming or otherwise) you can watch morally ambiguous people without actually being one yourself!
In keeping with that fine tradition, Netflix will introduce its new series called Orange is the New Black when it debuts on the service on July 11. Based on the best-selling memoir Piper Korman, the true-life dramedy will be brought to the small screen by Weeds creator Jenji Kohan (who knows a thing or two about making shows about ladies who break the law) and will star Taylor Schilling (yes, she who bedded Zac Efron in The Lucky One, though that's not why she's in trouble here) as Piper.
Orange is the New Black will revolve around Piper, a New York City socialite, and her one-year stint in a federal penitentiary thanks to her relationship with a drug runner (played by That 70's Show star Laura Prepon). The show, like the book, will explore Piper's adjustment from a life hanging out at hip Brooklyn bars to going behind bars. The series also stars, among others, Natasha Lyonne, Taryn Manning, and Jason Biggs as Piper's fiance.
Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer for Netflix, said in a statement regarding the upcoming series, "With Orange is the New Black, Jenji Kohan has created a dramatic yet deeply funny world populated with unforgettable characters and no-holds-barred humor set against the backdrop of a women’s prison."
