As
The Office's series finale approaches (the hour-long episode plus retrospective airs Thursday from 8-10
PM ET/PT on NBC), we've been trying to prepare for the inevitable
waterworks the final episode will bring. In order to gear up for the
farewell event, we decided to look back on the past nine seasons and
choose the best and worst episodes of the series. It shouldn't be a
surprise that most of the best episodes made the list because of the Jim
and Pam romantic moments...
BEST: "The Dundies" (Season 2, Episode 1)
When Pam got drunk at Dunder
Mifflin's annual "Dundies" awards show, she was so relieved at getting
the "Whitest Sneakers" award instead of "World's Longest Engagement"
like she got every other year that she kissed Jim. And thus began the
shipping of Jim and Pam!
BEST: "Booze Cruise" (Season 2, Episode 11)
Just as Jim was about to give up
on Pam, Michael uncharacteristically gets serious and encourages him to
keep on pursuing her. It was a touching moment between two friends.
BEST: "Initiation" (Season 3, Episode 5)
This was the first time we saw
that despite Michael's seemingly inept ways of managing the branch, he
actually is a successful salesman and manager. He truly is the best man
for the job.
BEST: "Product Recall" (Season 3, Episode 21)
The cold open alone is the
reason this episode made the Best list. Jim pretending to be Dwight was
done to perfection, and Dwight freaked out just as Jim thought he would.
Bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica.
BEST: "The Job" (Season 3, Episode 25)
After three whole seasons of
teasing us, Jim finally asks Pam out on a date and she accepts. It was
adorable, and totally worth the wait!
BEST: "Weight Loss" (Season 5, Episode 2)
Jim proposes to Pam. In the
pouring rain. Halfway between her graphic design school and Dunder
Mifflin. Is it raining, or are these tears on my face?
BEST: "Frame Toby" (Season 5, Episode 9)
Michael's absolute horror at
seeing Toby back at Dunder Mifflin was the absolute greatest. We rewind
that scream over and over when we're bored.
BEST: "The Duel" (Season 5, Episode 12)
We already knew that Michael was
a surprisingly talented manager, but in "The Duel" we found out that
the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin is actually the most successful
branch of the company. Michael Scott, you earned that chance to act smug
in front of CEO David Wallace!
BEST: "Broke" (Season 5, Episode 25)
Right as the Michael Scott Paper
Company was about to declare bankruptcy, Dunder Mifflin bought them
out. It was perfect timing, and Michael, Pam, and Ryan played their
cards perfectly.
BEST: "Niagara" (Season 6, Episode 5)
Jim and Pam knew their
co-workers would disobey them and recreate the "JK Wedding Entrance
Dance," among other disastrous events during the ceremony, so they took
off and got married on a ferry boat underneath Niagara Falls before the
ceremony. It was beautiful and perfect for Jim and Pam.
WORST: "Mafia" (Season 6, Episode 6)
This entire episode served to
show us just how inept these people are. From Kevin's accidental
identity fraud leading to Jim and Pam's credit cards being canceled
while they were on their honeymoon to Andy and Dwight leading Michael to
mess up a huge sale, it's hard to believe the Scranton branch is the
most successful Dunder Mifflin office.
WORST: "Lecture Circuit" (Season 5, Episode 17)
Watching Angela lick her cat to
clean it was a truly horrifying scene to watch. We agree with Oscar: the
image will haunt us for the rest of our lives.
WORST: "Night Out" (Season 4, Episode 16)
Watching Ryan throw away his
opportunity to be in corporate was heartbreaking... probably because we
all knew this bulls**tter didn't deserve the job in the first place. But
to see him without any true friends was still so sad.
WORST: "The Return" (Season 3, Episode 14)
Turns out Andy's anger issues
hadn't been resolved, and a tiny, harmless prank sent him into a fit of
rage. Putting his fist through the wall had to hurt!
WORST: "Sexual Harassment" (Season 2, Episode 2)
Ugh, nobody likes Todd Packer. Nobody.
