Women of the world, rejoice — Matthew Rhys will be the new Mr. Darcy.
Deadline reports that Rhys will play Darcy in BBC's three-part miniseries Death Comes to Pemberley. The miniseries marks the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the publication of Jane Austen’s Pride And Prejudice.
It is based on P.D. James's book about Jane Austen's Elizabeth Bennet,
Fitzwilliam Darcy, and George Wickham. Anna Maxwell Martin (Becoming Jane, Bleak House) will play Elizabeth and Matthew Goode (A Single Man, Watchmen) will play Wickham.
You might be worried that Rhys won't be able to fill Colin
Firth's shoes, but have no fear. For one thing, Rhys is fantastic? Have
you been watching him The Americans? You should be. For another, Death Comes to Pemberley is set six years after Darcy and Elizabeth's marriage, so Rhys has some wiggle-room with the character.
It's always exciting to see a new Jane Austen story
onscreen. But we're especially excited because we'll probably get to
hear Rhys' Welsh accent
