Disturbing images: Hollywood movie which 'immortalised' this serial killer

If you are very fond of watching horror and suspense thrillers, dare to watch the real life movie ‘Citizen X’ and ‘Evilenko’ made on the gruesome murders committed by the most dreaded serial killer Andrei Chikatilo.

Nicknamed as The Butcher of Rostov, Chikatilo raped 52 girls and women by luring them with candies and money and then killed and mutilated them brutally in isolated locations. 

Shot to death for his crime, Andrei Chikatilo still breaks down the bravest of the souls to tears.  

Citizen X was made in 1995 based on the book The Killer Department which gave the gruesome details of the investigation of the ‘Rostov Rippers’ murders. Actor Jeffrey DeMunn played the role of the serial killer Chikatilo in the movie that also featured Donald Sutherland as Mikhail Fetisov and Max von Sydow as Dr. Alexandr Bukhanovsky. 

Citizen X tells the nail-biting tale of a seven-year hunt by forensic specialist Viktor Burakov for the psycho criminal who mutilated and murdered over 50 people of both sexes, 35 of those who were murdered were below the age of 17. 

The crime thriller film depicts Soviet propaganda and bureaucracy contributing to the failure to capture the killer, as his crimes were not widely reported for the sake of not disgracing USSR.

If you are still left with some courage, then also watch the 2004 film Evilenko, starring Malcolm McDowell and Marton Csokas, depicting Chikatilo's murders. 

Andrej Chikatilo confessed to a total of 56 murders and was tried for 53 of these killings in April 1992.

  

Chikatilo was convicted and sentenced to death for 52 of these murders in October 1992 and subsequently executed in February 1994.
  

Majority of his murders were committed in the Rostov Oblast of the Russian SFSR due to which he was called as The Rostov Ripper or The Butcher of Rostov 

Chikatilo grew listening from his mother that his older brother Stepan was kidnapped and cannibalized by starving neighbors.
  

Chikatilo was a chronic bed wetter and was beaten by his mother for each mistake.

  

His father, Roman was taken prisoner after being wounded in combat during the Second World War.

  

Chikatilo was an avid reader of Communist literature and was appointed chairman of the pupils' Communist committee at his school.
  

He was bullied by his peers at school.

  

Chikatilo discovered his chronic impotence in school and started hating himself.

  

Chikatilo started teaching Russian language but lost job on accusations of child molestation.

  

Chikatilo married a woman in 1963 and his children were born as a result of external ejaculation and manual penetration of semen.
