CBS's long-running series Criminal Minds has been renewed for a ninth season, the network confirmed via Twitter on Thursday.
Following a down-to-the-wire contract negotiation period with the show's top talent, the future of the series was slightly uncertain. Ratings for Season 8 were down from previously years slightly (nothing terribly unheard of in a show with this long of a run, though), but still continues to do well for the network, averaging about 12.5 million viewers episode-to-episode.
The entire cast of the FBI-centric drama is set to return, including stars Thomas Gibson, Joe Mantegna, Shemar Moore, Matthew Gray Gubler, and Jeanne Tripplehorn. The series, about the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU for short), will come back with its entire cast in tact, no doubt a welcome decision to Criminal Minds fans, who have already dealt with several cast shake-ups during throughout the series' lifespan.
Seems that the cast is also over-the-moon about the news, with Moore tweeting up a veritable storm of excitement (and emojis, not pictured) with the help of one seemingly malfunctioning caps lock key. "CRIMINAL MINDS HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN PICKED UP FOR SEASON 9!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... THANK YOU FANS FOR SCREAMING LOUD ENOUGH FOR CBS TO HEAR YOU!"
With words that loud, how could they not be heard? Congratulations on having a job for at least one more season, Moore and Co. Here's to many more.
